'Spice of Life' donates to 'Help the Heroes' Charity - 17-05-2009 Linda Dare is so enthuiastic about what has been achieved for 'Help the Heroes' that we are printing her words — you will feel the enthusiasm: 'On the last night Major Phil Packer's parents were in the audience and I asked Mrs. Packer to speak in the interval. This was so very moving and we were privileged to hear of his experience from her. How he felt a twinge in his foot after being told he would not walk again. He has to tell his brain to walk and concentrate on walking, to achieve walking. People wanted to talk to him during his marathon walk but he was not able to talk and walk as the walking took so much concentration. Our MC John Harris at the end of the show along with the usual 'thankyous' got the whole audience to stand and they gave 3 really roof-raising cheers 'Hip, hip hooray!' and then he said let's hope the boys heard us, I do not think there was a dry eye in the house, there certainly was not on the stage. Takings: Thursday we had a very small audience of approximately 44 people: £83 raffle + £25 collection in bucket at end of the show. Friday: £109 raffle + £69 in bucket. Saturday: £123 raffle, and would you believe it — £232 bucket!! All this money includes £35 from people that did not even see the show, total £657 plus of course £500 from DK/Penguin books, will be going towards Phil's million.
